The Circle is Complete!

Well I have finally completed the quest, I now have all of the Iron Maiden studio cd's! Got the last two that I needed (No Prayer for the Dying and Seventh Son) on Ebay this past week and only had to lay down $15.25 for both! Now there are two live cd's that I must aquire to have all the Iron Maiden metally goodness that I want. I need to get another copy of Live After Death, which I think is the best Live metal album ever, and Live at Donnington. I think this will be at least the 3rd copy of After Death that I have purchased, but I have never owned Donnington.

I used to use Live After Death as my lullaby music to go to sleep too, looking forward to trying that out again! I do have the DVD, which is awesome but I don't have a way to get good sound through my dvd player.

On to other Metal news:

That Metal Show is back! The first episode of season three aired this past Saturday night with special guests Anvil! It was a live show from the Hard Rock in New York. At the end of the show Anvil played two songs and if you go to VH1 Classic website you can watch the entire show with extended concert footage. Looks like this will be another great season, make sure you tune in! Why VH1 doesn't just make this a regular weekly show and not have "seasons" I dont understand, probably has to do with the availability of the hosts.

Today I leave you with another classic metal video from one of my faves...Nuclear Assault!

I give you "Brainwashed"!!!

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE!!!

Check out these vids from Austrian Death Machine, the new album Double Brutal is a tribute album to one of the worlds most famous Austrian's and the current Govenator of Calli-fornia Arnold Swarzenegger! Great tunes such as "Get to the Choppa!" from Predator, "I need your clothes, your boots, your motorcycle" from Terminator 2 and "Who is your Daddy and what does he do?!" from Kindergarten Cop.

What is most amazing about this band is that the whole band is Tim Lambesis (As I lay Dying) he plays all the instruments and sings on this project. Fun and Heavy stuff check it out!

Who is Your Daddy and where is he From!?

Quest for completion!

I have almost completed my quest to own all of the Iron Maiden studio albums. Only two left to get are Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and No Prayer for the Dying. I think this will be the 3rd time I have purchased Seventh Son, both previous on cassette. I have never owned No Prayer however. I have found them at stores for regular price of $16-18 but to me it is more fun to try to find them at used CD stores or on ebay.

I guess I should admit that I am not actually trying to get the complete studio list, I will be skipping both of the Blaze Bayley CD's "The X Factor" and "Virtual XI", the do have a few decent songs on them, but I just can't get myself to accept them as Iron Maiden albums. I have listened to some of Blaze's other stuff with his new band and it is pretty good, but his butchering of the classic Maiden tunes is unforgivable. Not his fault, but he just doesn't have the range of Bruce.

Did have a few other good finds recently, got a copy of Flotsam & Jetsam's No Place for Disgrace for $3.99! Great Album, looking for Doomsday for the Deciever now.
Here is a live version of the title track from No Place, excellent shredding going on! \m/

Also, fellow metal heads, this coming Saturday night "That Metal Show" returns at 11pm on VH1 Classic. I believe Eddie Trunk said that the first guest is Ratt, who are touring again and playing the entire landmark "Out of the Cellar" album! Hope they come close to Cincy!

Brian Posehn "Metal by Numbers"

Check out Brian Posehn's "Metal By Numbers" video. Hi Stinkin'Larious!

In 2006, Relapse Records released his first album, Live In: Nerd Rage. It includes "Metal by Numbers", a song mocking bands that term themselves "metal" but are clearly not. The instrumental tracks feature metal legends such as guitarist Scott Ian (of Anthrax), bassist Joey Vera (of Armored Saint), drummer John Tempesta (of The Cult and White Zombie), and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais (of Shadows Fall).

Great Finds this past week!

So I was out searching through the used cd bins again around the area and made a couple great finds again! This weeks stash was a copy of Prong's 5th album "Cleansing" for $1.98!!! Can't beat that with a Metal Hammer! Great tunes on this album include; Snap your Fingers, Snap your Neck, and "Whose Fist is this Anyway". Here is a link to the bands website they are still Snappin' Necks! http://www.prongmusic.com/

Here is the video for "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck

The other excellent find was a copy of Anthrax's "Spreading the Disease" with one of my all time favorite Anthrax tune's on it "Madhouse" got this one for $3.99 and it looked brand new. Good example of Scotty Ian at his best shredding!

Check out the Link, embedding was blocked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syBH1aJOH5A

I also picked up a copy of Heaven & Hell's Live at Radio City Music Hall. Lots of excellent Black Sabbath and new Heaven & Hell songs on this DVD. Ronny James Dio still sounds great and the band is tighter than ever. Highly recomend you check it out. I give it 5 out of 5 Horns \M/

Some that you might not have heard of Part II ~ Laaz Rockit

From Wikipedia:

Lääz Rockit are a thrash metal band formed in San Francisco, California in 1982. Although one of the lesser-known groups of the Bay Area thrash metal scene, each album in their history has received high critical marks. One of their signature elements were Ibanez guitars adorned with elaborate airbrushed scenes of warfare.
The band broke up in the early 1990s but made some concert appearances in 2005, including a local benefit concert and 2 shows in the Netherlands and Japan. According to the group, there will never be another studio album; however, a DVD titled "Live Untold" was released in August 2006.

My introduction to Laaz Rockit came with the purchase of their 1987 release "Know Your Enemy"

My favorite song on this album was "Last Breath" very hard and heavy tune, and although Laaz Rockit is grouped in with the Bay Area Thrashers I always thought they had a pretty unique sound. I think I was also drawn to this band because they had many songs about war and combat and being in the USMC when these albums came out it kind of hit home for me.

The good news is, is that the band is back together and had a new album that was just released in July of 2008.

Here is a clip of Last Breath and the video for Fire in the Hole. Enjoy!

A few that you may not have heard of...

So in this posting I thought that I would talk about a few bands that never got the attention that their music deserved.

The first band is Hallow's Eve.
Hallows Eve were formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983. Founded by bassist, vocalist Tommy Stewart and guitarist, vocalist Skullator. This band is known as one of the earliest bands to pioneer speed and thrash metal! Three records were made in the 80's following the obligatory Metal Massacre compilation appearance, and they then disbanded, scattering to various local area bands.
They are probably most recognized for their song "Lethal Tendencies" that was used in the movie "River's Edge" (if you haven't seen this movie, check it out!) soundtrack. Hallow's Eve's first album titled "Tales of Terror" came out in 1984 with great speed thrash tunes as "Plunging into Megadeath" and "Metal Merchants. This was followed by "Death & Insanity" which the band considered to be a concept album about death. Every song on the album features Death in the title. in 1988 by Metal Blade Records. Many hard hitting tunes on this album including the track from River's Edge. Also released in 1988 was the band's third album "Monument" some of the best head hammering songs on this album was Speed Freak, the title track Monument (To Nothing) and a cool remake of Queens "Sheer Heart Attack".

My favorite song by the band is the afformentioned "Lethal Tendencies" it has that slow and super heavy feel to it, and it is over 6 minutes long which is another thing that I like. Here is a youtube posting of that song. Let me know what you think!

Here is a link to the bands website, looks like they are still rattling heads! Check them out!
